5th Class/6th Class
Bank of Ireland came in to 5th and 6th class to do a 'Dragons Den' style workshop with the class. In groups, the children had to create a business, draw up a business plan, do market research and create a marketing capaign for their product. The children created businesses selling healthy smoothies, solar powered cars, a recycled amusement park and a pet shop that was also a charity which rehibilitated abadoned pets. They then pitched their ideas to the 'Dragons' and all receive an investment of 'Bizbucks'.
It was an extremely enjoyable workshop and thank you to Mark Ryan and Bank of Ireland for facilitating it.
Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class had a fabulous trip to Causy Farm, on Thursday 13th June. Although the sun didn't come out for us, we made the most of it! The children had the opportunity to see and pet a wide variety of farm animals. After a tour of the farm, we piled into the back of a trailer and sang songs, as it transported us to the nearby bog. Our wonderful guide Andy told us about how the bog had formed and how it was vital to the survival of Irish people for many generations, as they depended on it the turf from it to heat their homes and cook their food for many years.
The children had a great time jumping into the bog. It was certainly messy, but a lot of fun!
This week we have been learning about Weight and Forces. We had four stations with different activities at each, including a station using our new school iPads.
We estimated and weighed a range of classroom objects, using a variety of measurement instruments, such as a traditional weighing scales, a digital scales and a spring balance.
It was great to take part in active learning activities and explore Weight and Forces!
As part of our Green Schools campaign, 5th and 6th Class went to Herzog Park and collected litter. We found lots of plastic, glass bottles and food wrapers. It is great to give back to the community and make Herzog Park pleasant for everyone.
5th and 6th Class have been learning all about New Zealand and Maori culture. to demonstrate what we have learned, we have created Maori mask out of clay.
