Stories from the Titanic

The Titanic was one of the most famous ships to ever sail the Atlantic Ocean. We've been reading stories about passengers on board and explored the contrasting experience passengers had depending on which class they travelled in. From reading recounts and looking at photographs, we imagined what the luxurious first class cabins were like and how cramped third class cabins were. We created models of various cabins in shoeboxes! Have a look and see if you can tell the classes apart
Science Week

This year our focus in 5th and 6th Class was on the Irish Coast and Climate Change. We explored the various bays, headlands and islands around Ireland and investigated marine life that is found on our coasts.
We also explored what effect the North and South Poles melting would have on sea levels through experiments with melting ice! We finished off our week by creating an underwater collage in art.
We also worked with Junior and Senior infants to make parachutes! It was a very busy science week!

Class Novel

5th and 6th Class have just finished reading Wonder by RJ Palacio and really enjoyed it! It is a book which really makes you think and delivers very powerful messages about kindness. If you are in the school corridors have a look at some of our book reviews and art work.

Proclamation Day 2016

5th and 6th class undertook the task of reimagining a new proclamation to reflect the values, ideals and aspirations of the generation of 2016. After a lot of planning, and hard work they created a new Proclamation relevant to today's society. They proudly presented their proclamation to parents, students and special guests at our flag raising ceremony.
