3rd Class/4th Class
In Geography and Science classes we learned all about Irish mammals. We researched, made and presented our wonderful projects to the class. We learned a lot from each other!
We looked at the work of impressionist painters and were inspired to create lovely atmospheric autumn pictures. We also made autumn trees out of paper bags! We loved how they turned out.
We really enjoyed Space Week this year. We carried out an experiment to show that the moon is nine and a half times the circumference of the earth away. We also learned that the moon is a quarter the size of the earth. We learned and performed (with style!) the David Bowie song Starman and did a 'Dance of the Planets'. Then we made lovely pastel drawings of the solar system.
We have been studying natural features in our locality (and the way in which people interact with them) in our Geography and Science classes. We decided to go on a field trip to see the places we had been discussing in class for ourselves. We walked down to the Dodder river and looked at two bridges and a place where an old mill had once been! Then we went to Herzog Park and discussed how it had once been a quarry, then a lake, and now is a lovely playground. We listened to the sounds of nature like the wind in the trees and the birds singing and observed the lovely autumn colours beginning to appear. Of course we couldn't pass by an opportunity to try out the new playground that some of the older children in our school helped to design. We LOVED it!
A warm welcome (and welcome back) to our new third and fourth class! We are all settling in nicely to the new school year and are looking forward to a wonderful year together with lots of exciting and interesting learning activities. We have already done some lovely recount writing projects on our summer holidays. A great time was had by all!
