1st Class/2nd Class
This week in Science and S.P.H.E. we have been learning about the correct names for parts of the body. We have also been learning about the jobs our internal organs do, particularly our heart, lungs and brain. We finished our lessons by splitting into teams and having a body parts quiz- we co-operated really well!
In History, 1st and 2nd class have been learning about games in the past. In particular, we researched card games played by our grandparents and parents when they were younger and we discussed games that we know how to play ourselves. After recording our findings, we all brought in card games and taught each other how to play them in groups. It was lots of fun!
This week 2nd class are learning about length in maths. We have been discussing standard and non-standard units of measurement as well as centimetres and metres. We have practised estimating and have measured the door, windows, whiteboard, each other, and lots more!
This week we have been learning about the life and work of Canadian artist Maud Lewis. We learned about how she had very bad arthritis which made it difficult for her to paint, and about how she was very poor. She lived in a tiny house in Nova Scotia but painted everything in it with pictures of flowers and nature to make it beautiful. We looked at her lighthouse paintings in particular to inspire our own mixed-media pictures. Have a look at how we made them!
