Wonder by RJ Palacio

Wonder by RJ Palacio

We just finished our fourth novel of the year, Wonder by RJ Palacio. Here are some of their thoughts on the book.

The Plot

Wonder tells the tale of a 10 year old kid named August Pullman. August (Auggie) lives in New York City and is just a regular kid, apart from one thing: He has a facial abnormality. His face does not affect his life too much, mainly because he’s been home-schooled his whole life. But, this year Auggie is starting middle school. Starting middle school will most likely face him with many new challenges, enemies and friends. - Oscar 5th Class

Thoughts and Opinions

This book teaches us many important lessons for life. Here's what we think.

‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’

This percept teaches us to judge people by their actions and deeds and not by how they look. It is important not to jump to conclusions and to be open minded when we meet new people. I can apply this to my life by giving others a chance. - David 6th Class

Fortune Favours the Bold.’

This book taught me to be brave and daring. It tells me that if I take a step outside of my comfort zone I will enjoy exciting and new opportunities. - Jonah 5th Class

‘Your Deeds are your Monuments’

This precept has taught me to work harder in school, try new things and be kind to others. We are remembered for our actions and we can choose to be nice to others.- Seán 6th Class

Opinions

I liked the book because it told the story from different points of view which encouraged us to look at situations from different perspectives.- Itai 6th Class

I liked this story because I could relate to the main character Auggie. He has to deal with things in his life that not all people have to deal with and that’s like me. - Luke 6th Class
