1st Class/2nd Class
In science, First and Second Class have been discussing atoms and how they affect the states of matter. We also learned that a polymer is like a 'string' of atoms. To explore this idea, we conducted an experiment where we filled a plastic bag with water and then pierced it with sharp pencils. It didn't pop or leak! The polymers in the plastic 'hugged' the pencils, creating a seal. We had lots of fun making guesses, working in groups, observing what happened, and writing up our experiments like real scientists.
First and Second Class created paper mosaics recently. Have a look at us making them, and a few of the finished products!
To celebrate Computer Science Education Week (4th- 10th of December) as well as Europe Code Week (7th-22nd of December), First and Second class have taken part in coding workshops with Ms. Ryan over the past few days. We are having lots of fun!
Margaret from the D.S.P.C.A. visited us recently and brought along some (not so) little friends. We were all excited to hold the Giant African Snails and watch them slowly come out of their shells as they felt the warmth of our hands.
During Arts Week, First and Second class had the fantastic opportunity of visiting Stratford College to take part in a workshop conducted by the illustrator Melissa Doran, who has illustrated the wildlife book ‘Naturama’.
Melissa showed us books she had made when she was a little girl, which were all about nature. We then used microscopes to examine leaves and make rubbings, before illustrating our own ‘Seasons’ books.
We had a fantastic time, and Melissa was kind enough to give us a copy of ‘Naturama’ for our classroom.
A huge thank you to Ms. Reynolds for organising the visit and for inviting us!
